The Best Places to Visit in Miami
Ocean Drive
- For beachfront ambience with a more tropical twist, Miami Beach welcomes you to Ocean Drive.
- Also known as A1A, the road is a major thoroughfare running through the heart of South Florida.
- The stretch along the beach is lined with palm trees filled with tourists in their best swimsuits strolling along and taking in the sights.
- It's also populated by plenty of businesses looking to capitalize on that tourist traffic.
- The area's nightlife is among its biggest attractions. Even if you're not there to party, it's worth looking around for a bar or two that strikes your fancy; the warm weather entrance you, people-watching opportunities, and festive atmosphere even if you don't stay for long.
- If you do decide to stay for a drink or two, Ocean Drive is one of the best spots in Florida for pub-crawling: there are countless places to go—on any given night, a block might have five or six bars vying for your business.
- There's also no shortage of roller skating: right next to the road, skaters can find an unpaved section of sidewalk where they can strap on their skates and hit the pavement.
- Come evening; Ocean Drive transforms into one big party.
Art Deco District
- Though Miami is most often associated with the beautiful beaches, Art Deco architecture, and nightclubs, there are plenty of other things to do.
- Miami Beach is an excellent place for history buffs.
- The city has many Art Deco hotels and landmarks like the Plymouth and the McAlpin; explore yourself, looking for iconic landmarks.
- In addition to its architecture, Miami Beach has incredible museums.
- The Bass Museum is especially notable. It has an impressive collection of early twentieth-century pieces and an impressive Art Deco exterior.
- If you're looking for something more active, try exploring South Beach's walking paths or renting a bike.
- There are over 800 examples of Art Deco architecture in the city, so you can spend hours just walking around admiring them!
Wynwood Walls
- Look no further than the Wynwood Walls if you're in Miami during the holidays and looking for a fun, free activity.
- This massive outdoor exhibition features a collection of street art created by more than 50 artists from Miami and worldwide.
- The art is spread out over six main buildings, each transformed from a warehouse to a canvas to a work of art.
- You can walk to the walls—which are located between Northwest Second Avenue and Northwest Sixth Street—from your car.
- One of my favourite things about the Wynwood Walls is that you can stroll through different genres, styles and eras of street art.
- You can see pieces from some of the original pioneers of street art like Keith Haring and Kenny Scharf, as well as contemporary artists who have taken up this popular form like Shepard Fairey (of Obey Giant fame).
- The best part of visiting this "museum" is that it's free; no admission fee is required!
Miami Beach Boardwalk
- The Miami Beach Boardwalk stretches from Indian Beach Park in Mid-Beach Miami to the heart of South Beach.
- It's more than three miles and never deviates from the coast or Miami's most beautiful beaches.
- It runs through several neighbourhoods and communities along the way, so it's not just a walkway along the coast but a cross-section of the city.
- The morning beat the heat and join the hordes of runners and cyclists getting their day started with some exercise.
- The boardwalk is scenic and lively, too: there are people fishing, kids playing in fountains, couples cuddling on benches, and street performers letting loose on guitars.
- The afternoon is about relaxing and decompressing: families will have picnics on blankets, tourists will grab snacks at food stands, and everyone will enjoy a walk or jog along this highly travelled stretch of waterfront.
- The evening brings blue skies again to Miami Beach—and the promise of a fantastic sunset over the ocean.
Little Havana
- The area known as Little Havana is one of Miami's most distinctive and popular tourist attractions.
- Though hotels and high-end shopping are beginning to creep into this historic neighbourhood, it remains a must-visit destination for anyone visiting Miami looking to experience its culture.
- One of the most well-known landmarks in Little Havana is Calle Ocho (8th Street).
- This thoroughfare is lined with restaurants and shops, many selling Cuban specialities such as candy and cigars.
- The Tower Theater, a striking Art Deco building at one end of the Street, shows movies with Spanish subtitles.
- The area's unique atmosphere is best experienced firsthand by spending time there during the day—but if you can't get to Cuba, check out some of these popular nightclubs and other nightlife options in the area:
- The stage at Club Paradise features salsa dancing on Friday nights.
- They also have a weekly amateur contest; if you're learning to dance yourself, this would be a fun place to practice your moves!
- El Carajo is another famous Cuban music club in Little Havana.
Villa Vizcaya
- Gardens are the lifeblood of any estate, and Villa Vizcaya's are no exception.
- Designed by a veritable who's who of the early 20th century's most prominent gardeners, they were intended to be a microcosm of the Italian Renaissance.
- The grounds contain numerous fountains, sculptures, and formal gardens, including an extensive rose garden and a series of hedges that have been clipped into shapes ranging from animals to letters to geometric patterns.
- A stone wall with almost five miles of walkways snakes around the property, offering visitors ample opportunity to take in the scenery.
- The gardens are so beautiful that the house itself is almost an afterthought.
- Still, one must admit that it is impressive on its own merits—especially since it was built when Miami's brutal subtropical summers made it seem unlikely that anyone could build anything that would last for decades.
- The main house is a grand mansion in the Italian Renaissance style, with more than 70 rooms filled with European antiques and art. These rooms are open to visitors during trips to Vizcaya Museum and Gardens.
- The grounds of Vizcaya make it popular for events such as weddings, which can be held beneath its ancient trees or among its formal gardens.
Haulover Beach
- Haulover Beach is a secluded beach located on a shoal between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean in Florida.
- It is known for its beautiful blue waters, soft, welcoming sands, and a stretch of clothing-optional shoreline.
- It is located on a shoal between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean.
- It is much less crowded than South Beach and offers a variety of outdoor activities and amenities and a large urban park.
- Haulover Beach is only a forty-minute drive northeast of the centre, aside from picnic areas, playgrounds, tennis courts, a marina, and a golf course.
- Dade County acquired Haulover Beach Park in the 1920s as an emergency landing strip for the seaplanes that ferried wealthy tourists from Miami to the Bahamas.
- By 1934, it became known as Haulover Beach Park and was used by locals and out-of-state visitors who arrived by boat.
- It was not until 1968 that Haulover Beach became Miami's first legal nude beach.
- The city has tried to protect Haulover's natural surroundings by installing artificial reefs along its coast to promote marine life growth and preserve its delicate ecosystem.
Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science
- The Museum of Science and Industry is located on the south side of the main highway that cuts through downtown Miami and offers a spectrum of interactive science-related exhibitions for all ages.
- The museum was founded in 1949 as part of Miami's golden age as a tourist destination, and it had its first home in the old Burdine's Department Store in Downtown Miami.
- Today, it has moved to a new location in Museum Park, next to Biscayne Bay, which hosts an extensive collection of Florida wildlife and the largest aquarium in Florida.
- The museum is fun to visit with kids or just by yourself if you want to learn more about scientific topics such as space exploration, dinosaurs, or insects.
- It also features a planetarium with 3D films that take you on a journey through the universe.

- There are currently over 70 art galleries and trendy restaurants and bars.
- The Oliver Cole Gallery, Art Nouveau Gallery, and Bakehouse Art Complex are the best galleries.
- Located across I-195 from Wynwood, the Miami Design District is home to over 130 art galleries, hip shops, antique dealers, restaurants, and bars centred on NE 40th Street.
- The De la Cruz Collection, and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami, are among the other attractions.
- The Museum of Graffiti, the Rubell Museum, and the Margulies Collection at the Warehouse are other attractions.

By boat, explore Millionaire's Row
#Fun
- When you think of Miami, what's the first thing that comes to mind? South Beach, perhaps, or beautiful weather and stunning vistas.
- But one of the most exciting and attractive things about this vibrant city is the contrast between its ultra-wealthy residents and its large population of the poor and disadvantaged.
- Millionaire's Row is a street in the heart of Miami Beach, where mansions (some larger than others) line both sides.
- The area was originally home to wealthy Jewish families, but today it boasts an eclectic crowd of celebrities and other successful entrepreneurs.
- Boat tours are a great way to learn about Miami from afar. One popular option is a cruise through Millionaire's Row, which features opportunities to see some of the most expensive yachts in the country—not to mention some of their well-to-do owners lounging on the deck.
- You'll find more than one mansion with an on-deck pool right next to the water, with no railing whatsoever—not that anyone would ever need one; if you've got a mansion and a yacht, why not just go ahead and swim off your deck?
Hire your own jet ski
#Fun
- A jet ski tour is a great way to make the most of your Miami holiday.
- The bay's choppy waters are perfect for an adrenaline rush, and with complete control over the speed, you can cruise at a leisurely pace or breakneck speeds—it's up to you!
- There'll be plenty of time to admire the fantastic Miami skyline (and keep an eye for dolphins too).
- When you're craving beach time after your exhilarating jet ski ride, plenty of options are nearby.
- Grab a picnic lunch from home and head to Haulover Beach Park on the north side of the bay.
- You can bring your gear or rent it on the beach; volleyball nets and picnic tables are available, and there are several shops nearby where you can grab snacks, drinks, and more.
- If you want to get a little fancier, reserve a table at Chef Michael Mina's three restaurants in Miami: Prime 112 Steakhouse, Lure Fishbar, or American Fish.
- The first two are located in the heart of South Beach; American Fish is located near Bayside Marketplace on Watson Island, just next door to Haulover Beach Park.
Experience an exciting airboat tour of Everglades National Park
#Fun
- We've all heard of Florida's swamplands and alligators, and there's no better way to see them up close than on an airboat tour through the heart of the Everglades.
- You'll ride on an airboat through the park's swamps with a few other travellers, admiring the wildlife in their natural habitat.
- Keep an eye out for the park's legendary inhabitants (alligators!) who like to sneak up on you.
- All-inclusive holidays are great if you want to keep your costs down while having access to everything you could want in a holiday.
- That makes them ideal for those who want to spend as little as possible on their holiday but don't want to feel like they're missing out on anything other people take for granted.
- All-inclusive resorts are not just for those on a tight budget; they can also be a luxurious and convenient alternative for anyone who doesn't have time or patience for planning or dealing with money at every turn during a holiday.
At a sunset boat party, you can let your wild side loose

- With party boats, you'll be able to see the best sights while enjoying some of the most popular bars in the area, all while riding on a ship that's designed explicitly for partying!
- Not only that, but the open air and fantastic views mean there's no better way to take in the culture of Miami than to relax on its bay.
- While it may not seem like it at first glance, Miami is incredibly rich in history, with plenty of stories of wild parties and legendary celebrities waiting to be told by your tour guide.
- One thing is sure: if you're looking for an unforgettable night out, party boats are precisely where you want to be!

Bike through South Beach
#Fun
- If you're short on time, the best way to see South Beach is on two wheels.
- While walking between destinations is a great way to experience the area's varied architecture and get your heart pumping, it can be a bit slow for those on a tight schedule.
- Bikes are also more fun than walking and strolling and open up more opportunities for exploration.
- South Beach has some of the most beautiful roads in America.
- Still, biking there is also a safe bet: one study found that Miami has the country's second-lowest rate of pedestrian fatalities per capita.
- The only way to understand this iconic part of South Florida is to cycle through it, whether you're here for a quick trip or have time to soak it all in.
- A bike tour will give you an intimate knowledge of everything from Miami's vibrant art scene to its history as an international port of call.
- It's also an excellent opportunity to savour some of Miami's world-famous cuisine—after all, what better way to get familiar with the food scene than by pedalling along while sampling some of the city's most famous dishes?
- A locally-led tour will highlight some of the area's most popular neighbourhoods, like South Beach.
